Oak Grove Middle School

Oak Grove Middle School serves 1,500 students in grades 6-8, offering a variety of educational and extracurricular opportunities for students.  OGMS has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School and has a number of national board certified teachers/counselors and student leaders. 

Our theme for the school year is “#WaymakersLCSD,” an endeavor that will drive all efforts of our faculty, staff, and students.  We are currently rated a level "A" by the Mississippi Department of Education's accountability system.

We offer a variety of activities that allow students to become active members on campus, including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, archery, track, volleyball, softball, Student Council, Beta Club, Math Counts, Band, Choir, Spotlight Show Choir, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Junior Civitan, First Priority, Technology Student Association, Chess Club, Theater, cheerleading, and dance. 

Parents, we need you. Please consider becoming actively involved on campus through volunteering and joining our PTO.

It is critically important that families complete the online registration process for the 2021-2022 school year using Active Parent. 


**ALL 7th GRADERS are REQUIRED to have the TDAP immunization prior to registration. YOU MUST UPLOAD Mississippi Immunization Form 121 during the registration process. 

LCSD RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

Returning Students

In order for a child to enroll in the Lamar County School District, the student's parents/guardians (Photo ID may  be required) must annually provide the information listed below. Upon receipt of this information, the school  administration will make the appropriate school and classroom assignment.1. 

1. Two proofs of the child's residence in accordance with the Student Verification of Residence Policy and state law.

2. A student not living with a parent must present official documentation as to guardianship status. 

3. Current custody papers if applicable. Failure to present the required documents at the time of registration will result in the student being denied enrollment.

New Students

In order for a child to enroll in the Lamar County School District, the student's parents/guardians (Photo ID  may be required) must provide the information listed below. Upon receipt of this information, the school  administration will make the appropriate school and classroom assignment.

1. Two proofs of the child's residence in accordance with the Student Verification of Residence Policy  and state law.

2. A CERTIFIED birth certificate for the child.

3. A proper (Mississippi Certificate of Immunization Compliance-Form 121) immunization report  issued through a physician or through the health department.

4. A student not living with a parent must present official documentation as to guardianship status. 

5. Current custody papers if applicable. 

Residence with Legal Parent/Guardian Affidavit Required 

Any student entering the Lamar County School District must reside with his/her natural parent(s) or a court-approved legal guardian who resides in the Lamar County School District in order to be enrolled in any school in the Lamar County School District. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis; however, the  District generally will not accept a new student who does not meet this requirement.

VISITORS and ATTENDANCE POLICIES

Visitors

ALL VISITORS must check in AND enter through the A Building Office (Old Hwy 24 Entrance).  Due to COVID-19, visitors are not allowed to enter our buildings at this time. The safety of our students and learning environment is our Top Priority!  Please call the main office if you need assistance.



Early Arrival

Students who arrive early on campus can not do so until after 7:40 am.

* All students arriving on campus will report to their first period class! 


Checkout Procedure

Student must present a parent note to school office by 8:30 am to be verified (phone number required on note).

Parent or guardian must physically come in and pick up student. No phone calls will be accepted.

Anyone checking out a student MUST be on the checkout list. Photo ID is required to check student out.

NO LUNCH CHECKOUTS unless a doctor's note is presented upon return.

Checkouts during the last 30 minutes of the school day are for medical emergencies or doctor's appointments only.

Students are allowed three (3) non-medical checkouts per semester. Students who exceed three (3) checkouts may receive disciplinary action.


Make EVERY DAY Count

All MS public school students are required to be present 63% of the school day to be counted present for that day. The 63% does not include lunch, breaks, etc. 

At OGMS, our school day begins at 8:25; therefore students must be present until 2:05 pm each day to meet the 63% requirement.

Free/Reduced Meal Application for ALL Families

We encourage all households to submit a SY21/22 Free/Reduced Meal Application so that students may qualify for other benefits offered, such as ACT/PSAT waivers & Pandemic-EBT benefits to name a few. Applications may be submitted viahttps://www.nlappscloud.​com/.

Please do NOT throw away your P-EBT card, even if you have used all the current benefits. Additional benefits to eligible students may be issued on those same cards for the 2021-2022 school year, if approved by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.

We can post YOUR CHILD'S BIRTHDAY on our school's digital sign in the front of A Building! Turn in $15 (cash only) to the A Building office 1 to 2 days prior to the date you want it on the sign. It will run all day on your child's special day!
